Ruby Roundy, died on Christmas Day age 87. Whenever she saw a pretty rock, she licked it to see if it shined. So, from now on, when I see a rock that shines, I'll just remember my gem, Ruby.
The memorial service was great. Fred told us that Ruby's mother didn't like him; he had to "fight off" 5 suitors to win Ruby. They were very poor. They had a ranch in Colorado that failed after a long drought. Ruby got a job making bombs! She hurt her hand on the machines, but kept working because they needed the income. She made $12.00 a month. Ruby had to boil bones for the family to eat. They lived in a tent for awhile and then a 17' trailer with 4 kids. Ruby never complained. Fred advised the men " find a pretty girl with a kind heart, marry her and then shut up" - he's funny. He said we all loved Ruby in our own way but she loved us all the same. I wrote her a poem and gave it to Fred. Named "Beloved Ruby".
